Is fear ruining your wellbeing business?
You are working with your passion - you are being of service to your clients. But are you making money as a yoga teacher or massage therapist? In the end if you are not making the money that you need to live or support your family; then you cannot serve as many people as you are meant to or you may even need to stop all together and get a full-time job.
I often ask my coaching clients if they have set themselves financial goals, worked out their break-even point or what their marketing costs are. More often than not they have not worked it out often because they are scared of the answers.
Yes, it can be scary to get honest with yourself about what you need to do to create financial success for yourself. It is however, a necessary part of running a wellbeing business.
Why do we fear getting specific about the money? In my experience, there are many reasons for not doing this it can be a fear of failure, not being good enough, fear of not being liked, being seen as money grabbing or not being a nice person.
Do you really believe any of those fears to be true about yourself, do you believe you are a bad person for wanting success for yourself? Hopefully the answer is no if however, the answer is yes then we need to look a bit deeper as to why you feel this way. The reality is we admire those people who appear to know who they are and what it is they want. We wish we were more like them not afraid to go after what they want.
Here is my challenge to you! Dig into that courage that I know you have, after all you have already taken the difficult decision to work in an industry that many people consider unusual and “alternative.”
Now don’t get me wrong you can’t just wish your dreams into reality you need to get specific about what you want – what your goals are and how you are going to get there. Many of my coaching clients have a vague idea of what they want to achieve, more clients more money but they have not yet developed a deep understanding about how they are going to get there or how many clients they need a month to achieve their financial goals.
Chapter 7 of my book is titled “Dream Big and do your research” without researching whether your wellbeing business is viable you can easily waste money, time and energy in the wrong place. Yes, your research may highlight some problems with your financial goals this does not mean you have failed it just means you might need to pivot your idea a little.
It is ok to want to earn money, it is ok to get specific about your money goals, it is ok to want to be the best at what you do, it is ok to find your voice. I am giving permission to want all of these things.
